Zbigniew Libera – szkice do cyklu „Eroica”

Zbigniew Libera jest polskim artystą, performerem i fotografem. Jest uważany za prekursora nurtu sztuki krytycznej, która komentuje w sposób krytyczny sytuacje społeczne, polityczne i ekonomiczne. W swojej twórczości podejmuje kontrowersyjne i prowokujące odbiorców tematy. Jego prace znajdują się m.in. w zbiorach: CSW Zamek Ujazdowski w Warszawie, Narodowej Galerii Sztuki „Zachęta” w Warszawie, Jewish Museum w Nowym Jorku, Haus der Geschichte w Bonn. Rysunki są szkicami wykonanymi do cyklu „Eroica”. W tym cyklu Libera podejmuje temat socjalizacji chłopców oraz projektowania przez społeczeństwo ich stosunku do kobiet. Na podstawie szkiców, powstała ”Eroica” – zestaw niewielkich figurek, podobnych do zbieranych przez chłopców żołnierzyków. Figurki stworzone przez Liberę przedstawiają nagie kobiety, tańczące w świetle reflektorów – ich pozy sugerują uległość, poddanie i sytuację opresji. Wymowny napis na pudełku z figurkami zachęca do przedmiotowego traktowania kobiet – wejścia w posiadanie, kolekcjonowania – „Collect them all” („Zbierz je wszystkie”). Libera zwraca w ten sposób uwagę na problem kształtowania męskiej tożsamości, przedmiotowego traktowania kobiet i stosowaniu wobec nich przemocy.

Zbigniew Libera is a Polish artist, performer and photographer. He is regarded as the precursor of a trend of critical art which comments on social, political and economic situations in a critical way. His works deal with provocative and controversial subjects and are to be found, amongst other places, in the collections of the Centre for Contemporary Art, Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw, Zacheta National Gallery in Warsaw, the Jewish Museum in New York and the Haus der Geschichte in Bonn. The drawings are sketches which are part of the series “Eroica”. In this cycle Libera tackles the subject of the socialisation of boys and the role of society in forming their attitude towards women. On the basis of the sketches, “Eroica” was created – a set of small figures, similar to the small soldiers collected by boys. The figures made by Libera, show naked women, dancing under the lights – their poses suggesting submission, surrender and oppressive situations. The significant text on the box the figures are kept in encourages the objectification of women – as an introduction to ownership and collecting – „Collect them all”. Libera emphasises in this way the problem of the creation of the male identity, the objectifying of women and use of violence against them.
